Tracking Solutions for VR/AR and Virtual Production

1. Industry Pain Points
A core challenge in VR/AR experiences is Motion Sickness, primarily caused by image latency and positioning drift. Consumer-grade Inside-Out tracking often loses tracking during rapid movements or in environments with few features. In the fields of professional Virtual Production and Motion Capture (MoCap), traditional optical solutions (such as Vicon) are prohibitively expensive and demand strict site conditions, significantly limiting their widespread adoption.
2. Sidumodo Solutions
  • System Deployment:

  1. Motion Capture (MoCap): Several lightweight MPS cameras are mounted on tripods and arranged around the capture area. Fixed retro-reflective markers (small balls) are worn on the actor’s key joints.
  2. Virtual Production (Camera Tracking): The MPS camera is rigidly connected "back-to-back" to the cinema camera. Multiple single-point targets are randomly placed on the ceiling or walls of the green screen studio or filming set.
  • Workflow:

  1. Detection: MP4S/MPS cameras capture markers on the actor or targets within the scene in real-time at an ultra-high frame rate of 120Hz.
  2. Calculation: The camera instantaneously calculates the X, Y pose of each target or its own pose relative to the targets.
  3. Streaming: Via the provided SDK, low-latency pose data streams are transmitted in real-time to mainstream game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity.
  4. Synchronization: The engine uses the received data to drive the skeletal animation of virtual characters or to match the virtual background with the movement of the physical camera in real-time, achieving a "seamless" integration.
  • Product Selection: MP4S/MPS Vision Guidance Camera

Reason for Selection: This scenario is highly sensitive to latency and refresh rates. The 120Hz refresh rate of the MPS is the physical foundation for ensuring smooth visuals and preventing motion sickness. The MPS series directly outputs the X, Y coordinates for up to 23 retro-reflective points, along with the pixel-wise length/width coordinates, perimeter, and area for each marker.
3. Core Performance Advantages
  1. 120Hz + Low Latency: Eliminating Motion Sickness at the Source: The ultra-high refresh rate combined with in-camera processing minimizes the "Motion-to-Photon" latency. This provides a fluid, comfortable, and truly immersive VR/AR experience.
  2. High Precision for Cinema-Grade Tracking: Millimeter-level positioning accuracy meets the rigorous demands of professional virtual production for precise camera and actor tracking, ensuring visuals remain free of jitter or drift.
  3. Zero Cumulative Error for Long-Term Stability: Unlike pure inertial (IMU) solutions, TagSLAM provides vision-based absolute positioning. It does not suffer from cumulative error over time, eliminating the need for frequent recalibration.
  4. Exceptional Cost-Effectiveness and Flexibility: The system delivers the core functionality of traditional optical MoCap systems at a fraction of the cost. Its flexible deployment and low sensitivity to ambient light empower small studios and individual creators with professional virtual production capabilities.
4. Customer Value
Enhanced Experience, Lowered Barriers, and Unleashed Creativity.By providing a more comfortable immersive experience for VR/AR users and a cost-effective virtual production toolkit for filmmakers, this solution significantly drives the development and adoption of Metaverse applications.
